WESTBURY Leigh couple, Adrian and Edith Bass, along with members of Bath and West Wilts branch of Coeliac UK, have presented a cheque for £1,500 to Coeliac UK.
Following another successful year of fundraising the Bath and West Wilts Coeliac UK Group presented Dr Heidi Urwin, research manager for Coeliac UK, with a cheque for £1,500 towards further research into the disease.
Adrian Bass, group organiser said, “Our fundraising is more or less completely from the very large gluten-free food fair we hold in November.
“Last year’s event at Bath Racecourse attracted 1,200 visitors, which were far too many for the venue, having moved from Melksham Assembly Hall because that was too small.
“So this year we are moving to The Royal Bath and West Showground on November 19th and taking over two halls, hopefully that will be big enough.
“We are very happy with the amount we donated this year. In total we think we are close to having donated nearly £10,000 over the past 10 years.
“As group organiser I contact all newly-diagnosed coeliacs and introduce them to the group and give them the opportunity of joining us if they wish. We are a very pro-active group and feel it is important to try and raise money to support research into Coeliac disease.”
