WESTBURY Rugby Club has received a grant of £45,000 from Hills Group to help improve the facilities for the growing club.
The club is based at White Horse Country Park and needs more changing, toilet and showering facilities. The grant will allow them to install a new sewerage treatment plant, which is needed before new facilities can be built.
The club currently has nearly 400 players and caters for men, women, and juniors, and is continuing to grow.
Theron Bates, director, said, “To push the club forward we need more facilities. It’s no good us raising money for showers and changing rooms if we can’t get rid of the waste environmentally. This is a proper state-of-the-art sewerage treatment plant.”
The club currently has one set of showers and one changing room, but wants to build up to four sets of showers, changing rooms, and toilets.
The funding was made available by the Hills Group through the Landfill Communities Fund which is administered for Hills by Community First, Wiltshire’s rural community council.
Additional funding towards the sewerage plant has also been received from the Rugby Football Union, local sponsors, and club funds.
The club hopes installation of the sewerage system will be completed in June, and will hold a NatWest RugbyForce weekend – a working weekend with volunteers – on the 15th and 16th of June. They have received a £500 grant from the programme and are in the running to win a further £3,500 from the fund.
