A HOUSING developer has applied to build 50 new homes on land behind Westbury Leigh Primary School.
The proposed development would see the new houses built on land west of Dartmoor Road; near the main road between the health centre and Dilton Marsh.
National housebuilder Persimmon Homes intends to build the new homes on just under three acres of ‘degraded grassland’. It says access would be provided via an already-approved development of 14 houses nearby.
The estate will mostly consist of two and three bed houses with parking spaces, and will included the Government recommended 30% affordable housing.
Persimmon says that animal habitats nearby are of ‘relatively low ecological value’ and that the diversity of the area would be improved by landscaping and planting in the development.
Members of the public are invited to give their views on the application until Friday 4th November.
