A TEENAGER from Dilton Marsh, Ella Broad, has been awarded ‘Referee of the Year 2017/18’ by the Wiltshire County Women’s & Girls’ League committee and was awarded her shield during a presentation evening on Sunday 6th May.
This year the committee decided to hold, for the first time, a small presentation evening after the cup finals to announce this year’s ‘Referee of the Year’ winner. This is the first time in history that the league has presented the award in this way.
Ella referees around three games at the weekends, in the Mid Wilts Youth League and Wiltshire women’s and girls’ league. She referees at county Futsal competitions and county matches. During the summer, Ella also referees in tournaments around the county to keep her skills up to date.
Referee secretary for the league, Mark Paris-Haines said, “Ella has worked very hard this season and her marks show that Ella is a referee with a good future ahead of her. She was appointed to referee the Under 11s Cup Final and also was appointed as the 4th official for the Ladies’ Cup game.
“I congratulate Ella on this amazing achievement and we look forward to seeing her refereeing at open age level next season on our league. Congratulations Ella.”
Ella, on receiving her award said, “It was a hot day but well worth it to pick up my awards. I’m looking forward to next season and making the transition from youth refereeing to adult.
“I’d like to thank everyone who supports me from Wiltshire FA, and league secretaries who appoint the games, the managers and players. I have to thank my dad for driving me to and from matches, and my number one supporter – my nan. Bring on the 2018/19 season!”
