Students at Fairfield Farm College recently had fun in the sun, enjoying a ‘socially distanced’ Sports Day.
Rachel Bown, the Youth Sport Trust inclusion lead for Wiltshire, who organised the sports day at the college said, “I thought this was particularly important as part of our Covid-19 ‘recovery curriculum’. I wanted students to feel that we can all still work together to be active and have fun whilst feeling safe.
“Traditionally, students divide into groups to take part in a range of sporting events. This year, planning was a little more complex to ensure that students remained in their ‘bubble groups’, and encourage two-metre distancing. We have incorporated cleaning times between groups and accessing activities was also a consideration, that resulted in extending the event across two days.
“Students participated in: dance, Taekwondo, tri-golf, Vortex/Frisbee activities, trampolining and Taiko drums. These activities were delivered by PH Sports, Taiko Journey, Caroline Newman (The Dance Lady) and Sinead Deedigan (Sion Health & Fitness). Students thoroughly enjoyed trying these new challenges, and a great time was had by all participants. Well done to all the students and staff who made the sports days a big success.”
Fairfield Farm College has remained open throughout the pandemic, with students and staff all well-rehearsed in the new safety measures in place. Nearly 70% of all students continue to access the college, with a planned extension to the term to compensate for lost time in recent months.”
