THE local CCTV team for Warminster and Westbury have recently been nominated and awarded a Wiltshire Police ‘Chief Constables Certificate of Appreciation’ for their hard work and dedication.
The CCTV team, based at Dewey House in Warminster, consists of a small team of part-time and volunteer staff.
Members of the CCTV team are trained in their roles and are aware of the legislation and rights surrounding the disclosure of CCTV material to the other agencies and partners with whom they work.
Lindsey Winter, Sector Inspector said, “The award which detailed a number of specific instances where the CCTV cameras and the fully trained staff/operators had excelled were recounted and the team commended for their involvement and individual efforts.
“The success of CCTV and the important role it plays within our communities comes into its own – especially when we are trying to find vulnerable or missing people – or offenders for the serious violent crimes we may experience on our streets. However we won’t ever be able to evidence just how successful the CCTV system in our town is at preventing crime and how safe it makes us all feel, knowing it is here in the background for us should we ever have to call upon it for help.
“What we need to remember though is that the cameras and equipment need the skill and commitment of the trained and valuable operators. Well done to the CCTV team.”
Westbury Town Council recently agreed to improve the CCTV coverage in the town. The town’s seven cameras will be upgraded, while two new cameras will be installed.
