FIRST Steps, the baby and toddler service held at All Saints Church, celebrated its 28th birthday on Wednesday 9th May with balloons and cake.
Begun in 1990 by the Rev Dorothy Bellamy to provide a meeting place for parents and carers of young children, First Steps to Worship continues to provide a place for friendships to grow.
Organisers say, “The very informal relaxed format has not changed over the years apart from the addition of new stories and songs (the song Mr Cow is a big favourite at the moment).
“There is a short Bible story from a toddler Bible, then singing with actions and musical instruments, a noisy chorus with whistles before refreshments and time to run around the church.
“There is no charge and all are welcome from new baby to pre-school age. We have mothers, fathers, grandparents and child minders who attend and it doesn’t matter if you are running late – we know babies can’t tell the time!
“First Steps is held every Wednesday in term time 9.30 – 10.25am. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Just come along and join the fun.”
