The Bishop of Ramsbury is coming to All Saints Church for a special confirmation service this month.
The Right Reverend Andrew Rumsey will be part of a service of confirmation at All Saints Church at 10am on Sunday 30th November.
“We are excited to be welcoming him to this service where some of our church members are going to be confirmed into the Christian faith,” said Revd Rebecca Harris, Team Rector at All Saints Church.
“Confirmation is when those who have been baptised as infants or children affirm their commitment to Christ in a public way.”
“Our candidates have been on a journey for the last few months, as they have been preparing for this event. We have been meeting regularly to discuss the Christian faith, thinking about such questions as: Who is God and what is God like? Who is Jesus and his life and ministry, his death on the cross and his resurrection and what this means for us today?
“We also look at what it means to belong to the church and how we may live out our calling as Christians in the world today.
“During the service, the candidates will have the opportunity to share something about what their faith means to them, and why they are taking this step at this time.
“The Bishop will lay hands on the candidates and pray for the coming of the Holy Spirit in their lives. After they have been confirmed, the candidates will be able to join us in sharing in Holy Communion and will be welcomed into God’s family, the church.”
There will also be an opportunity for young people or adults who have not been baptised to be baptised by the bishop at the service.
“This is a Team Service for the parishes of Westbury and Dilton Marsh, so there will be no other services in our parishes that Sunday,” said Rebecca.
“We hope that many will join us.”
The church is inviting anyone to come and join the service and meet the bishop. After the service, refreshments will be served in the church.
