Antelope class (year 4/5) in Bratton School spent a magical two terms immersing themselves in the world of Harry Potter, ending with a trip to Warner Bros Studios to see where the Harry Potter films were made.
They spent terms 3 and 4 using Harry Potter to stimulate learning across the curriculum.
The class read ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ together in class, wrote spells, designed broomsticks, described Diagon Alley, created Quidditch match stories and acted and wrote play scripts in literacy.
They also solved Hogwarts themed number problems in numeracy and looked at changing materials by creating magical sweets and milkshakes in science. During their PE lessons the children played Quidditch.
As a craft activity 3d Harry Potter masks were created and sketches of the film settings were drawn in Art. Every member of the class contributed to a magnificent newspaper in which every article was based on a Harry Potter theme. This can be viewed on the curriculum page of the school website.
Finally, the icing on the cake was the class trip to Warner Bros Studios to see how the Harry Potter films were made. After all their hard work across the term and lots of class fundraising, the children and staff felt they really deserved the trip and had a fantastic time.
