A BY-ELECTION for the Laverton ward has been called and will now be used to fill two vacancies in the same ward, following the resignation of Marie Pope.
A by-election was requested following the resignation of Dorian Jones from the council last month. Since then, Marie Pope has also tendered her resignation and so the by-election will cover both vacancies. Marie Pope has served on the town council for one year, and cites her reasons for resigning as “personal”. She said, “I have offered my best wishes to the mayor and former fellow councillors in their continued work in the town.”Following the resignation of Dorian Jones, ten electors were required to request a by-election, a requirement which has been fulfilled. The by-election for both seats will be held by 15th June, although it is anticipated that it will be held in mid-May. Prospective candidates can obtain a form from Wiltshire Electoral Services, Monkton Park, Chippenham, SN15 1ER or on 0300 456 0112. The deadline for nominations will be set once the date of the election has been set.
