A WESTBURY petition, which challenges Wiltshire Council’s car parking policy, has been presented to Wiltshire Council.
The petition, which was launched by Westbury Town Council and the Westbury Chamber of Commerce earlier this year, has been signed by 3,570 people. Since free one-hour parking was scrapped by Wiltshire Council in April last year, traders, shoppers, and councillors have protested. They say the charges have had a detrimental effect on the town, and have come out in force to voice their discontent through the petition. At the meeting of the Westbury Area Board last Thursday, Bill Braid, chair of the town council’s car parks working group, and David Jenkins, president of the Westbury Chamber of Commerce, presented the petition to Jane Scott, leader of Wiltshire Council.
