WESTBURY Court Care Home residents were thoroughly entertained by stories and pictures sent in by local children for its ‘Once upon a Time’ storytelling event.
Although they had a tough time deciding, the residents decided the winners in each category who received the book token prizes.
The winners were:
• Under 10s: Ruby Sue Parker for her heart-warming story about two friends competing in a race and how helping someone you care about is always better than winning.
• Under 8s: Neave Parker for her wonderful story about Jack the giraffe whose favourite food is minty leaves. After eating exactly 29,000 of them one day he felt rather sick but thankfully felt better after a power nap!
• Under 5s: Phoebe Yeoman for her beautiful picture of a Flower Fairy inspired by Cicely Mary Barker’s books first published in 1923
Resident, Arthur Freeland, said, “What fantastic imaginations these children have, I’ve really enjoyed reading them all’.
As well as the children’s writing competition, the home’s celebration of storytelling included a performance of the pantomime ‘Cinderella’ by members of the care team, which went down a treat with residents.
Home manager, Jane Jones, said, “We’ve all had such a wonderful time and it’s been lovely to reminisce about some of the stories we enjoyed in our childhoods. Thank you to all the children who took part in our competition and thank you also to Claire Bird, owner of ‘Not Just Brides’ in Westbury who made sure I could go to the ball by loaning me one of her beautiful dresses!”
