WESTBURY Rotary Club recently had a special visit from the ambassadors of Hope for Tomorrow, a mobile chemotherapy charity chosen to receive half of the club’s fundraising this year.
Town councillor and club member Sue Ezra said, “The Rotary club invited Mary and John Bell from the charity to talk to the club about the launching of their mobile chemotherapy units.
“The charity was set up in 2007 when it provided its first mobile chemotherapy unit (MCU) in Gloucester and they have just launched their ninth in Cornwall.
“Patients in Gloucester, Somerset, South Wiltshire, Hampshire, East Kent, Lincolnshire, North Wilts and Cornwall all have the benefit of these units and the charity hopes to one day cover every county.
“It saves patients and carers thousands of miles of travelling by bring the treatment closer to their homes. The story doesn’t finish once the charity has launched a MCU in an area, it then has to fundraise to keep the unit maintained and on the road.
“The continued partnership with the NHS to ensure the success of the service requires fundraising of £12,000 per year for each unit on the road, so Hope for Tomorrow is really thankful to all those who support them.”
