WESTBURY mayor, cllr Sheila Kimmins, has thanked all those that entered the annual Christmas card competition and she has praised the high standard of entries.
Orla Pearce, who was named as the overall winner, was selected out of 72 entries and she was given the honour of switching on the town’s Christmas lights on Saturday 3rd December. She was joined on stage with winners from the other ages groups – Logan Harding and Ava Gibbs, as well as the runners-up, Aria Wright and Ivy Christopdi.
The mayor, cllr Sheila Kimmins said, “The creativity on display was truly impressive! We received 72 cards, which made the judging very hard, as they were of such high standard. The younger age group and the older age group had not so many entries as the 6 – 8 years, that is why there were two runners-up on this occasion.
“I wish to thank every child who sent in their card for judging, and for making my task of choosing so difficult!”
Orla’s winning card, which will be used by the mayor on behalf of the town, says Merry Christmas in French and English, and also has a Ukrainian message that translates as ‘Christ is born’.
