THERE is a chance to have your say on issues affecting Westbury at an ‘Our Community Matters’ conference which takes place on Tuesday 8th November at Leigh Park Community Centre.
At the conference, a new report put together by Westbury Area Board on issues affecting the community will be presented to the public. The report covers local issues surrounding health and wellbeing, community safety, the economy, transport, the environment, housing, older people, children and young people and culture within the Westbury area.
The public will have the opportunity to have their say on how best to respond to the findings and decide what the area board needs to prioritise in for the next two years.
Community engagement manager for Westbury, Liam Cripps said, “This really is an exciting opportunity for local people to have real data presented to them, specific to the Westbury community area and contribute towards how we as a community act on the findings.
“This is the first Our Community Matters conference that I have been involved with since joining the team a little over a year ago. This work is carried out every two years by Wiltshire Council and looks to set the community area priorities for the following two to three years.
“The benefits to Wiltshire Council are huge in terms of hearing that public voice, gathering information at a local level and encouraging local involvement. By having members of the community set priorities for the area in which they live, gives residents a voice and an opportunity to make a difference. Those who attend will be setting the priorities for the Westbury community area for the coming years.
“This really is an opportunity for local people to have their say and what projects and initiatives they would like in their community to help work towards improving, maintaining and building on the data provided on the evening.”
The conference will start at 7pm and there will be a presentation from colleagues in Public Health followed by facilitated table discussions and priority setting using a voting system.
