THE Lions Club of Westbury is on the look-out for new members to join the club to support their well-attended community focussed events that are set to take place throughout the year.
The Lions are already well known throughout the community for their popular Christmas float, donkey derby and vehicle show, but did you know that they also host an annual senior citizens’ party, Easter egg hunt and a 10k run?
“As well as these events, in the last year we have also planted over 1,000 trees, donated thousands of pounds to local schools and pre-schools, funded a day out for local families to the wonderful Marwell Zoo and even relaunched a Leos Club in the community for service-minded youngsters,” said a Westbury Lions spokesperson.
“All that happens before we even begin to list the countless donations we have made to individuals, charities and groups across the area! Westbury Lions are part of the largest service-based organisation in the world, Lions Clubs International.
“As a member, wherever you travel across the globe, you can meet fellow Lions with a shared interest in volunteering and supporting their local communities or who are active in assisting people in the aftermath of regional disasters (such as the war in Ukraine and the floods in Jersey).
“Our service in the community is based on, but not limited to, the following eight global causes – childhood cancer, diabetes, disaster relief, the environment, humanitarian efforts, hunger, vision and youth. Each Lions club is autonomous; however we can in turn choose to support more or less causes as appropriate to meet the needs of those around us.
“Volunteering as a member with Westbury Lions is a fulfilling and inspirational experience, which brings many opportunities to meet new people and make lifelong friendships all over the world while making a real difference to so many people in our community. With the numerous training and development programmes available to members, you can even learn additional skills which can help you in your day job, too!”
