Are you an art or crafts practitioner working in woodworking, tile making, stained glass, textiles, stone working, pottery or other arts and crafts that might be found in a church environment?
All Saints’ Church in Westbury is seeking funds to hold three workshops in the church for older people, along with three workshops for families with young children. They say, “We aim to welcome the wider community of Westbury into our beautiful Grade I Listed church as a ‘Space for All’. The workshops will celebrate the beautiful objects within our church and give older people and young families an opportunity to try out a new skill for themselves.
“The aim of the sessions is to help our community discover the church and feel at home and welcome in this building, which has been at the heart of the community for over 500 years.
“We are looking for arts and craft practitioners who are comfortable working with the general public and sharing their skills with others. The sessions will be held in All Saints’ Church from April – October.
“We anticipate that they will consist of a short introduction to All Saints’ Church and how the craft in focus would be used in the context of the building, followed by a hands-on experience. There will be time for refreshments and conversation. Should funding be successful, these sessions will be free for the participants and promoted through community groups to older, socially isolated people and families living in Westbury.
“A fee of £250 is available for the session. There is an additional budget for materials. There will be volunteer support on the day. If you are interested in being involved in this work please contact Beth Thomas, churchwarden in the first instance on wcw@whtministry. org.uk to discuss the project in more detail and how you would anticipate leading the session.”
