WESTBURY town councillors voted unanimously to see out the authority’s current contract with an electricity provider for the town’s public toilets after a previously approved transfer to SSE hit a stumbling block.
Town clerk Deborah Urch explained at the council’s recent meeting that members had approved to move all the council’s gas and electricity contracts to green energy contracts provided by SSE, at a council meeting in August 2020.
“The transfer process for this was being handled by a third party who arranged the contracts on our behalf and this process was staged in line with the varying end dates of our existing contracts,” Deborah said. “Unfortunately, this third party went into administration in January and did not give notice to the existing electricity supplier for the public toilets, West Marcia Electricity. This has meant that the council is tied into a green contract with West Mercia Electricity until April 2022.”
