CROSSPOINT continues to provide a range of support services for the people of Westbury and surrounding areas who are in need, especially around Christmas.
Christmas can be a difficult time for many people for different reasons. For those people, Crosspoint provides support, guidance and understanding in a safe and welcoming environment.
Westbury Town and Wiltshire Councillor and founding director of Crosspoint cllr Gordon King said, “Crosspoint was created to address the issue of increasing social isolation from access to services in a context of increasing financial and social deprivation.
“It has done that by creating a Welcome Centre for the provision of support, advice and guidance including signposting, on a wide variety of matters; a counselling service that helps foster personal resilience; a job club to help tackle unemployment and worklessness; a foodbank (an outreach of the Warminster Foodbank) and a debt advice service to help with family budgeting and directly tackles the effects of poverty.
“In the last 12 months nearly 1,200 visitors have come through the door and of these, one in five have done so for reasons directly relating to poverty and debt, leaving with a food box.
“Others have had help filling out forms, writing their CV, conducting a work search; looking for a new home, contacting Wiltshire Council, using social media, contacting family and friends or to simply have a chat and a cup of coffee. All are welcome at Crosspoint whatever the issue.”
The success of Crosspoint can be attributed to the commitment of volunteers who run the centre, grants from local organisations and the generosity of individual supporters.
To cope with its expanding services, the team at Crosspoint would be delighted to hear from anyone who can offer support to the organisation through volunteering, fundraising or raising awareness. Visitors are welcome to drop in to the centre any time that it is open or contact info@crosspoint-west bury.org.uk.
Crosspoint is situated at Albion House, 1 Market Place, Westbury, Wiltshire, BA13 3DE. They are open Monday and Wednesday 2.30pm-5.00pm and Thursday and Saturday 10.00am – 12.30pm.
