50 BLANKETS that were crocheted by Dilton Marsh residents over the past year were recently sent off to the Swindon Humanitarian Aid Partnership to support those in need in Ukraine.
The efforts saw members of the Holy Trinity Church of Dilton Marsh, members of Wooley Wednesdays at the Weavers Pub and other Dilton Marsh residents come together to create the blankets.
Lynne Vercoe from the White Horse Team Ministry said, “We reckon we’ve put together about 50 blankets which is about 5,000 squares in total – I don’t like to think how much wool that is! Penny Hill has been the main driving force behind this and she has contributed many beautiful blankets. We’ve also had many people from around the local community contribute and I thank them very much for that.
“The church did a big collection of all sorts of things for Swindon Humanitarian Aid Partnership and the blankets went along with this. This is about a year’s worth of work and we are so proud with the amazing response we received from the local community. A big thanks, not just to the knitters and crocheters, but also to those who helped sew it all together, as they’ve pulled everything together!
“We’re always looking for more people to join our Wooley Wednesdays club – we meet on Wednesday at the Weavers Pub at 2pm. This isn’t where we make squares for blankets; in fact, many are made at home, between bigger projects, to use up spare wool, or wool that has been donated for the project.”
