DILTON Memorial Hall is back fully open with new improved facilities. And the hall has something extra special to look forward this year to as it is celebrating its centenary.
“Following the introduction of step 4 of the Government’s roadmap, the hall is fully open from 19th July,” says Kathy Hutt, one of the Trustees.
“The management committee has already treated the hall to improvements including having the floor stripped and sanded and the façade cleaned. New stage curtains, funded by very generous donation from a local resident, are to be installed soon.
“Other improvements include the installation of a video projector and screen; the re-carpeting and decorating of the committee room and the wheelchair access has been improved with a wooden ramp.
“For the centenary, we are planning to compile and publish a commemorative booklet.
“We are holding a coffee morning at the hall on Saturday 31st July from 10 -12, so please come and join us for refreshments. We really want to hear your stories about the hall, as well as your suggestions about its future. There will be displays and information to look at; if you have any photos to share, please contact me in advance or bring them with you on the day.
Situated in the centre of the village, the Hall was originally built in 1921, but has been extended and modernised in recent years. It offers a permanent stage, fully equipped kitchen, facilities for the disabled and a separate carpeted meeting room.
Prior to the pandemic, the hall hosted a wide range of activities with hopes now that these will be able to return in the coming weeks. Weekly groups included table tennis, short mat bowls and exercise classes with monthly meetings for the WI, Parish Council and Hall Committee. Events were also held throughout the year, such as film nights and talks, as well as arts, theatre and music performances and again, it is hoped these will soon return.
The hall is taking bookings for future events. Contact Kathy on 01373 301656.
