CCTV may be set up at Westbury’s Leighton Recreation Centre after reports of dogs leaving mess on the cricket grounds as well as reports of vandalism to the club’s equipment.
Westbury councillor Gordon King said the Westbury and District Cricket Club had repeatedly reported vandalism to the cricket nets and people not collecting dog mess.
Cllr King will bring the proposal to Westbury Town Council’s policy and resources committee on Monday 5th June.
He said, “I want to extend CCTV to cover Leighton Sports Field where we get frequent reports from the cricket club that the field is being vandalised in one way or the other.
“It makes the preparations for the ground for the coming season and indeed their enjoyment of the ground that much more difficult so it’s time we find out who is responsible for all this somehow. The security of the field must be improved.
“The cricket nets have been vandalised, torn and broken in the past and people are not collecting their dog waste. Can you imagine how people feel when they slide along the field chasing a ball to stop it going over the boundary and slip right into dog mess.
“It’s very unpleasant and it’s a real health and safety issue.”
