John Craig, ex Chief Fire Officer for Wiltshire, was the guest speaker at the latest meeting of Probus in Westbury.
John started his talk by bringing good wishes from the Devizes Probus Club of which he is a member.
The ex Chief Fire Officer’s talk, entitled ‘Going to Blazes’ was full of anecdotes experienced in a career spanning 37 years, including the last 14 as Chief Fire Officer for Wiltshire, based in Devizes.
Many anecdotes were funny, some more serious, but all were very interesting. He also touched on the use of dogs, in arson investigations conducted by fire brigades, to sniff out accelerants; some political issues involving the fire service and his involvement in starting up a brigade brass band while he was working for Suffolk Fire Brigade.
At the end of his talk he was thanked by Probus chairman, Chris Saunders.
The next meeting will take place on Tuesday 18th August in the meeting room at the RUC church, in Westbury, at 10.00am. The guest speaker will be Larry Bohara. Subject ‘The Gallipoli Campaign’.
