WHITE Horse Health Centre is urging local people – particularly those in vulnerable groups – to get their annual flu jabs in special flu jab clinics this week.
No appointment is necessary for the clinics, which will be held at Bratton Jubilee Hall from 9am to 11am on Thursday 9th October, and the White Horse Health Centre from 8.30am to 12.45pm on Saturday 11th October.
The practice is urging all patients aged over 65, and those in ‘at risk’ groups, to attend. These include those who suffer from heart disease, respiratory problems such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), kidney disease or liver disease; diabetes; a neurological condition like multiple sclerosis or cerebral palsy; lowered immunity due to disease or treatment (for example, no spleen, cancer or HIV); patients who have previously had a stroke or TIA (transient ischaemic attack); all pregnant women and all carers.
Westbury Group Practice says, “You may be feeling ‘fighting fit’ now, but having the flu could affect you more seriously if you are ‘at risk’. The flu vaccine is not a live vaccine and cannot give you flu. We’d encourage all patients in the risk groups to come forwards and receive their vaccination at one of the drop-in clinics.”
