SCHOOL children and staff in the Westbury area got into the spirit of World Book Day last week by taking the opportunity to dress as their favourite book characters!
Schools taking part included Westbury Leigh Primary School, Westbury Infant School, Westbury Juniors and Bitham Brook – and the Westbury Library also held a storytime event for local children.
The Westbury Leigh Primary School says, “It’s been an amazing World Book Day, where we have been celebrating reading and promoting the love of books across the school! Staff and pupils have dressed as their favourite characters.
“We’ve created outdoor book review graffiti walls, participated in class quizzes, story writing, designing book covers and reading for pleasure.”
Children at Bitham Brook enjoyed a pre-loved book sale to give books a new home and Year 6 pupils took groups of reception children to read them a fairytale. Year 6 school librarians also created a book quiz for children to participate in.
The school said, “As well as fancy dress, there was a decorate a potato as your favourite book character competition, and a ‘Masker Reader’ competition where each class was presented with photos of a member of staff reading a book (faces covered) and pupils had to guess who was reading. The book was a clue to the identity of the reader.”
