WESTBURY Area Board is encouraging residents and organisations to get involved with their meetings and make the most of the grants and help available.
The area boards provide a link for Wiltshire Council to bring local decision-making back into the heart of the community, and offers grants and assistance to local organisations and projects. People who work with the area board include local and county councillors, the community engagement manager, democratic service officers and youth officers, together with one member of Wiltshire Council’s cabinet.
It also includes the local NHS, fire and emergency services, police, village parish councils, community area partnerships and other groups.
The area board’s aim is that working with the community will lead to better services, better communities and a better quality of life for everyone in Westbury.
Funding
If you are a community enthusiast, community or voluntary group or town or parish council looking to fund a community project in Wiltshire, then you may be eligible for a community area grant.
Funding is available to help provide facilities, equipment and projects that are important to the local community. These awards can make a big difference in helping communities get schemes and projects started. The area board aims to support the idea of volunteering and community involvement so has decided that community area grant funding should go to these groups.
There is a simple online application form to complete and you can discuss your application with your community engagement manager, Liam Cripps, for more details.
Applications are considered at area board meetings and you and your community group are encouraged to attend to support your application.
Attending your local area board is great way to keep up to date with local projects, initiatives and you get your voice heard.
The next Westbury area board meeting is Thursday 10th December, 7.00pm at The Laverton.
On the agenda is community projects for all to be involved with. So if you are keen to bring a street fair or a cooking club to Westbury, or a community cinema or local photo exhibition, you are very welcome to come along, join in and help Westbury to continue to be the thriving community that local people all know and love.
