MATRAVERS currently has a vacancy for someone to serve on the Board of Governors, in a ‘co-opted’ governor position.
Co-opted governors can be anyone with the relevant skills, including parents of children at the school, local authority or school employees, as well as other members of the community.
Guy Davies, chair of the Board of Governors said, “Becoming a school governor involves taking on one of the most important and valuable roles in education, the strategic leadership of a school.
“Governors are one of the biggest groups of volunteers in the country. The purpose of the Board of Governors is to help the school to provide the best possible education for its pupils. It sets the school aims and policies together with the headteacher, although the head is responsible for day-to-day management.”
“Successful candidates must be able to take a strategic view of the place of secondary education in the Westbury Area community.
“We would especially welcome interest from people with a background in further or higher education, or experience of leadership and management in the public or private sectors.
“Some knowledge of school governance would be an advantage, but induction and training will be given.”
