A MOTHER and son from Westbury have braved the shave and lost all their hair, raising over £1,000 for charity.
Locals Jacqui and Martin Bendle shaved off all the hair on their heads (and in Martin’s case, his beard too) as part of Macmillan Cancer Support’s national event ‘Brave the Shave’.
“On the day I was not nervous but a little excited about having the hair cut done,” explained Martin.
“We had a great evening, around 30 people turned up to see the head shave.
“I would like to make a special mention to Sally Hartley, the hairdresser from Warminster, who shaved our heads. Also to Karen the landlady at the Bell Inn in Chalford for giving her time up for us.”
Originally the mother and son duo aimed to raise £600 between them, but they have smashed this target, raising just over £1,000 for Macmillan.
Now without a full head of hair and his beard, Martin is receiving a mixed reaction to his new look. “I must say I was not sad to see the beard go as it was driving me mad, also I looked like an old badger.
“I hope the hair grows back fast as I have been given a new nickname of ‘Shrek’ by my tradesmen friends. All in good spirit though!”
