BITHAM Brook Primary School has been placed in the top 25 schools in the county, after figures from the latest national curriculum results for 11-year-olds.
The data, which was published by the Department of Education in December, shows the results achieved by schools in the key stage 2 (KS2) national curriculum tests in 2012. Schools are judged by the percentage of pupils who achieve level four examinations in maths and English, with Bitham Brook Primary School scoring 94% compared to a national average of 79%.
David Ross, headteacher, took over from John Kimberley last September. He said, “We’re very, very pleased, and very proud of the children.
“The children have got such a positive approach to their learning. With every aspect they are so keen, they want to learn. I think that goes all the way through the school, which is crucial in helping them all the way through to year six. We should also pay tribute to the staff – you don’t get these results from one or two teachers pulling it out of the bag, it’s consistent work year on year.”
Many primary schools in the Westbury area are also performing well above county and national averages.
The national average in 2012 is 79%, while the average for Wiltshire is 78%. Performing above the average scores are local schools Bitham Brook Primary School with 94%, Dilton Marsh Primary School at 90%, Chapmanslade Primary School at 89%, Westbury Leigh Primary School at 85%, and Bratton Primary School at 82%. Westbury Junior School scored 63%.
