A FULL planning application for 14 residential dwellings on a green space between Haynes Road and The Crescent has been refused by Wiltshire Council.
The planning application included two one-bedroom bungalows and 12 two-storey one-bedroom houses on the green site located between The Crescent and Haynes Road, behind the newly-renovated previous council house properties.
In October last year, Westbury Town Council objected to the plans on the following grounds; that they were in breach of the Wiltshire Core Strategy and Core Policy 57, the design was not in keeping with the surrounding houses, it would create issues of overcrowdedness, accessibility, parking and congestion of the A350.
This month, Wiltshire Council agreed with the town council and opted to refuse planning permission to applicants, Belgravia 17 Ltd.
Their reasons were stated as; “The proposed development by reason of its density, size, siting, form and location, together with the proposed form of subdivision of the land, would result in an incongruous and harmful addition detrimental to the appearance and character of the surrounding area and a cramped relationship with neighbouring properties, harmful to neighbouring amenity, contrary to Core Policy 57 of the Wiltshire Core Strategy, as adopted 2015.
“Provision would not be made on the site for the parking of vehicles in a satisfactory manner which would lead to the displacement of vehicles onto the immediately surrounding road where public vehicle parking is highly restricted.”
Prior to the decision, the application was ‘called-in’ by cllr Gordon King, so if the application had been approved by councillors, it would have gone to the Secretary of State to oversee their decision.
