THE October meeting of Westbury Inner Wheel Club was held at the Chalford Hotel.
Sheila Buckton reports, “After a nice meal, president Pat Harper welcomed members and introduced guest Joyce Atkinson who was a past member of Inner Wheel. Pat reported that one member had resigned due to pressure of work and family commitments.
“Several members had attended the Rotary Quiz and it had been a very enjoyable evening. Members were informed that the Christmas Party will be held at the West Wilts Golf Club on the 14th December and they voted to have a carvery as this had been excellent in past years.
“Pat also informed the meeting that an international speaker from Team Rubicon, which is a disaster relief charity with volunteers with skills who go all over the world, would be willing to come and give a talk.
“The secretary reminded members that the association’s annual conference will be held in Nottingham in April 2017 and members needed to register if they hoped to attend. Jackie Pike, international chairman, thanked members for the Christmas shoe boxes and for all the other items donated.
“The next coffee morning in aid of international charities will be held on Wednesday 19th October hosted by Maureen Coward assisted by Val Algar. The monthly lunch will be organised by Jean Heath and will be held on the 25th October at the Snooty Fox, Warminster 12.30pm for 1.00pm.
“Sheila Carruthers community service chairman, said that the Alzheimer’s Society was delighted with the cakes provided by members last month and requested that in future five cakes be made each month.
“Maureen Coward will continue to purchase the food for Crosspoint. The street collection outside the Co-op Store would take place on the 14th October and would be in aid of Diabetes.
“It was confirmed that members would be assisting with the Rotary Ice Evening on the 12th November at The Laverton. The Street Fair in Westbury is planned for 3rd December and members were asked to provide items for the Christmas hamper. There would also be a raffle for a doll’s house.
“Sheila was also pleased to inform members that she had won the Captain’s Cup in skittles and that Linda Golding and Jean Heath had been present when she had received the cup.
“It was noted that five members would be visiting Dobbie’s in Shepton Mallet on the 8th October. This will be an informal District ‘get together’ to share ideas. On the social side a two night cruise to Guernsey is planned for July 2017.
“The next Meeting is on Thursday 3rd November.”
