members of the Westbury Royal British Legion recently marked Britain’s first ever Armed Forces Day, raising over £250 in aid of soldiers injured in combat.
Alongside events across the nation, a stall was set up next to the war memorial in Westbury High Street on Saturday 27th June, selling British Legion goods to raise money for both the Poppy Appeal and Help for Heroes.
Westbury branch president Eddie Bridges said, “It went very well and we want to thank the people of Westbury for that. By comparison with when Coopers was there, the town was fairly dead but we did quite well.”
Eddie gave his thanks to everyone who came and supported the British Legion on the day and also thanked mayor’s deputy cllr Christine Mitchell for her support on the day. She said, “I think we should show support for our armed forces and what they do for us and our country.”
Christine said that the Westbury branch of the British Legion do a good job of raising money in Westbury.
She said, “They are very nice people and I think they work very hard to raise money for the armed forces.”
Eddie Bridges added that the British Legion is always seeking new members, willing to give their time to help raise money for ex-service people and their families.
