THE INTRODUCTION of a new computer system at Westbury Group Practice has gone smoothly.
The new system was implemented on Friday 5th February, to replace the ailing existing one and bring the surgery’s computer up to date.
Despite a couple of minor hitches, the transition has not affected the care the surgery has been able to offer patients.
Office manager Michelle Coleman said, “It’s so far so good. There have been a few technical hitches which is to be expected but those are being worked out.
“Staff have been very positive about the new system and are adapting quickly, which will speed things up for the patients.”
Among the advantages of the new system is that GPs and nurses will be able to log into it to see their patients’ records from outside the surgery, on a hospital or home visit for example. It is also remotely secured and backed up, meaning data doesn’t have to be stored on disks or computer hard drives, so can’t be physically stolen.
Michelle added, “One very obvious benefit for patients will be that from the 10th of May they will be able to renew their prescriptions online if they wish, rather than have to physically come to the surgery.”
Patients will be able to register online to renew their prescriptions from the 5th of May.
