THE 2010 event has been renamed Westbury Music and Arts Festival to reflect the expanding programme envisaged.
A new committee has been formed with a view to creating a bigger, better and more diverse festival in 2010, following on from the success of last year’s inaugural event.
New chair David Perkins heads a committee of nine including a musical director along with representatives from Matravers, the Choral Society, town and parishes. Matravers School will be supporting all aspects of art music and culture and offering a wealth of enthusiasm and experience to the events.
To accommodate extra scope of already expressed or suggested ideas, an expanded festival will run from 22nd September to 3rd October.
David is particularly keen to invite other schools, junior and infant, to participate, also public houses and parish groups to join in by organising their own special events.
Funding projects are being discussed and to augment generous donations from Westbury Lions and Rotary clubs, a grand raffle has been organised for March. Sponsorship will be looked at as well.
The raffle will feature prizes donated from local businesses. When tickets have been printed they will be available from a variety of locations around the town.
Representatives reporting to the committee already have expressions of interest from artists and groups offering to perform at various venues and these will be made known to the public via the White Horse News and a website which is being set up.
