THE WESTBURY and District Link Scheme has appointed former mayor Carolyn Los as honorary president.
Carolyn has decided to step down after being involved in the scheme since its inception, and the committee has awarded her the title to commemorate her hard work.
At the Link scheme’s annual dinner on Friday 19th March Carolyn was confirmed as the honorary president.
Carolyn said, “It was a very nice evening and I was very honoured. It will be a very nice ongoing connection with Link now that I have finished volunteering for them. I’m very grateful, and very grateful for the gift and lovely flowers as well.”
Carolyn has worked as a recruitment officer, telephone co-ordinator and driver for the good neighbour scheme since it was founded, and was instrumental in setting it up ten years ago.
The scheme provides transport to people in the area who may need help to attend hospital or doctor appointments, shopping, or any other journeys that good neighbours would help with.
Carolyn, who was a district councillor for 12 years and a town councillor for 23 years, including two years as Westbury’s mayor, helped start the scheme after she retired from her role working for a charity that provides support for disabled people.
Westbury and District Link Scheme chairman John Adams said, “Carolyn epitomises all that is good about volunteering.
“She was one of the instigators of the Westbury and District Link Scheme and over the years there is no role she has not played – from being an active committee member through to supporting hundreds of Link clients.
“She is a natural networker, even before it was called that, and has been a mainstay of the scheme for many years.
“We are delighted that she has accepted the position of Honorary President because it means we can still call on her wisdom and community wide experience.”
Carolyn said, “I’ve been continually involved since the start, and I think they have been pleased with my local knowledge. It’s been very nice to be involved with all aspects of Link, to see what was happening. I knew it was the time to move on.
“I did very much enjoy it, it enjoyed meeting all sorts of different people, on both sides, it was extremely rewarding. It’s an ideal thing for someone to do as they come out of work.”
