THE new mayor for Westbury has been announced as Cllr Christine Mitchell.
Cllr Mitchell was elected as the new mayor at the Annual Town Council meeting on Wednesday 5th May. Cllr David Windess has been appointed as her deputy.
Having lived in Westbury for many years, Christine has sat on the town council for the Ham Ward for the past seven years, and has been deputy mayor for the last year. She takes on her new role with enthusiasm.
“I’m looking forward to it!” she said. “I’ve got a long connection with Westbury. I’ve done seven years on the council and I’ve met lots of people and friends. I’m looking forward to the summer street fayre, and Christmas in Westbury – I do like them! And I’m sure there’ll be lots in between!”
Sue Ezra, retiring mayor, wished Christine all the best in the role. “I think she’ll do a very good job,” she said.
Cllr David Windess has been on the town council for three years, and has spent some of that time as chair of the Highways, Planning and Development Committee. He will now take on the role of deputy mayor. “It’s a new challenge, but Christine and I work well together,” he said.
