A WESTBURY Guide has been selected as the Wiltshire representative for an upcoming Guide trip to Namibia next summer, and is busy raising funds for her adventure.
16 year-old Jessica Butler was thrilled to be selected for the trip next summer, and on Saturday 7th August will be holding a summer fete and table top sale in All Saints Parish Hall to help towards raising the £3,000 she needs to fund the trip.
Jessica is one of 16 young people from across the south west who will fly out to Namibia, where they will have the chance to experience a completely different culture as well as helping out the local community by assisting in refurbishing a school.
Jessica said,“I heard about the trip through the Guides, and then we went through a selection programme. We were selected on what we could do and how we worked as a team.”
“10 days are going to be spent refurbishing a school over there. I’m really excited – just the fact I’m going to Africa is exciting!”
Jessica has been part of the Guiding movement for many years, starting off as a Brownie before joining the Guides. She is now a young leader for her group, and says Guiding is something she really enjoys. “You do a lot of activities, and meet new people,” she said “It’s a lot of fun, and you learn new skills as well. I really enjoy it.”
Jessica has already started fundraising for her trip with a competition to guess the bear’s birthday competition in The Shires in Trowbridge, and is now busy organising future fundraising events. The fete and table top sale will be held on Saturday 7th August from 11.00am-3.00pm at All Saints Parish Church hall.
