ACTIVITY in North-acre Industrial Park is set to grow, with an application for three new industrial buildings submitted to Wiltshire Council.
The application submitted by DB Trading proposes three new industrial buildings on Kingdom Avenue, each which would be sub divided into smaller units. The gross internal floorspace would total 2,840 square metres.
At their meeting on Monday 15th November, the Highways, Planning and Development committee of the town council supported the application, adding that they welcome the proposal and the employment that it will bring to the town.
The application follows the announcement made by Arla Foods UK earlier this month, which stated that its manufacture of retail packet butter at Westbury Dairies on the estate will create around 60 jobs next year.
Cllr David Jenkins, who is also chair of Westbury Chamber of Commerce said, “The news that Arla Foods UK proposes to build a dedicated butter making and packing facility at Westbury Dairies for the retail market, which will result in the creation of approximately 60 new jobs, is a boost for local business and employment. It will also help secure the longer term development of the plant.
“Over the past three years the local community has suffered as a result of the national economic climate and businesses, both in retail and larger industrial, have been hit hard. This has now been made worse with the recent cut backs in the public sector.
“I hope that developments like this will help to attract more investment into the area and business in the local economy will start to improve, albeit slowly.”
