Local groups and organisations in the Westbury community could soon be benefitting from cash help.
The Westbury area board, which covers the town and surrounding villages, still has almost £12,000 on offer for community projects in this financial year.
Each of Wiltshire Council’s 18 area boards has funds earmarked to help local communities. So far this year the Westbury area board has approved £28,735 worth of funds for projects in the community.
The money has helped with a wide variety of projects from the purchase of trees for a community orchard through to equipment to start an oral history project aimed at capturing Westbury heritage on film and tape. Groups that have benefitted range from school pupils to pensioners.
“We have £11,712 to spend before the end of March and just one more area board meeting before the end of the financial year. We are very keen to do as much as we can to help local projects that would benefit our community,” said area board chairman David Jenkins.
The maximum grant available is £5,000 and match funding is only needed if grants are larger than £1,000. Applications cannot be considered for the following but an exception may be made if your project can demonstrate a wide community benefit: • Political or religious activities • Statutory bodies to fund their core services • Sole benefit of individuals • A private – profit making/commercial organisation • Running costs – e.g. rent, rates, electricity etc • Work which has already started. • Projects which could reasonably be expected to secure finance by other means.
To check if your bid might be eligible and to apply, please see the terms and conditions on the council’s website at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/areaboards, contact your local councillor or the community area manager at 01373 864714.
The Westbury Area Board next meets on 3rd February at the Jubilee Hall in Bratton.
