WHITE Horse Country Park had its moment of fame recently when it was seen on Channel 4’s Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.
The TV programme follows gypsy brides as they plan their wedding day, with plenty of colourful and extravagant clothes and decorations on display
The episode, aired on Tuesday 15th February, featured 19-year-old bride Bridget and her bridesmaids as they enjoy their reception at the park. In particular, the episode showed Bridget and her bridesmaids in big, bright pink dresses having their photographs taken on the lawn, with the iconic White Horse in the background.
Derek Hulin, who owns the park with business partner Shaun May, was at the reception when it was filmed last summer. “They’d been chucked out of their venue and I was down here when they came in and asked if there was any chance they could come down here,” he explained. “It was very colourful and totally different to a normal wedding.”
The reception went without a hitch, and without any drama which is normally shown on the TV programme.
“It was a bit disappointing, for the length of time we were there we only got three or four minutes – that was because there weren’t any problems!” Derek said. “But people have been making quite a few comments about it. It’s not the sort of thing you’d expect to see in Westbury!”
