MANAGER of Westbury’s Wiltshire Air Ambulance Appeal Shop, Dot Whitehead, mingled with royalty at the Queen’s Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace last Wednesday.
The Maristow Street charity shop has raised over £1.5million for the appeal since it opened 14 years ago, and Dot was invited to the party in recognition of the shop’s success and her hard work in running the shop.
Dot said, “It was all lovely. We saw the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh although we didn’t get introduced.
“It was very nice to get the invitation and something I didn’t expect! It was me who went, but I represented the shop and the staff.”
The shop has been enjoying a new lease of life since it was redecorated and recarpeted by Westbury Rotarians over Easter. The shop is now more important than ever – since the Devizes store closed earlier this year it is now the appeal’s only outlet.
