A “Safe Places” project is due to come to the Bratton corridor of villages in the new year.
A “safe place” is somewhere that people can go when they are in need of some support when they are out and about in their local community. It is particularly aimed at vulnerable people such as those with learning difficulties, but will be open to all.
The community initiatives has been piloted in Salisbury and stickers in windows are used to show individuals where they can go when they feel in need of a little extra help or support when out and about in their local community due to feeling anxious.
People who are part of the scheme can choose to have a form of ‘Safe Place’ identification using an orange wallet with an ‘In Case of Emergency’ card, ICE, which they would show to the safe place, in order to get the correct support.
It is hoped the scheme will be introduced in Devizes, Erlestoke, Coulston, Edington, and Bratton in the new year.
At the Westbury Area Board meeting held last week, Wiltshire councillor for Westbury East, cllr Mike Cuthbert-Murray, said he thought it was a scheme that Westbury traders would be keen to join and asked if Westbury could be brought foward in the timetable of establishing the scheme.
