WESTBURY Mayor, cllr David Windess, abseiled the side of Avon Gorge on Sunday in his latest bid to raise funds for charity.
David took along a party of 16 other brave people from Westbury, which included his daughter Jody. The party also included the manager of Tesco Express in Fore Street, Anthea Scarth, along with some of her staff.
All the money raised from the challenge will go to David’s chosen charity, Diabetes UK.
The 300ft abseil was the mayor’s latest challenge for his mayor’s chosen charity, and proceeds will go towards Diabetes UK.
David said, “I thought I would be anxious and I was dreading stepping back, but I enjoyed every minute! A couple of us had done it before, but most of us hadn’t – it was quite entertaining!
“I asked everyone to fundraise a minimum amount and so I’m hoping we’ll have raised well over £500.”
