SPOTS of fun and frivolity could be found all over Westbury last Friday to help support the BBC’s annual Children in Need appeal. Although money is still being donated, Westbury’s efforts have helped the current total exceed £26million – an increase from previous years.
With the appeal’s “spotty” theme plenty of children came into school with spotty clothing and spotty accessories, all eager to take part in a spot of fundraising.
“Silly socks” could be spotted at Dilton Marsh Primary School, as children wore their spotty, stripy, and silly socks for the day. Children at Westbury Leigh Primary School showed their spots by allocating their donations to each teacher – and the teacher will the most donations had to endure a pie in the face!
At Westbury Junior School there was a fancy dress competition and parade – and it wasn’t just the students dressing up! Each class also used their coin donations to form the shape of an animal, and children also spotted the clues around the school in their ‘spotty trail’. At Bitham Primary School children arranged their donations into a big shape in the hall. Children at Bratton Primary School had a spotty non-uniform day and spotty cake sale, as well as a “run in the country” in the afternoon.
There was plenty going on at Fairfield Farm College, with a mini gymkhana with facepainted (spotty) horses and bike racing. There was also facepainting, a cake stall and the college’s new shop and cafe was open as well.
