60 runners lined up outside of Leighton Recreation Centre for the second running of the White Horse Gallop trail run, organised by Stampede Sports on 27th November.
The event, which gives runners the challenge of running the steep climb to the summit of Westbury’s White Horse and down, is proving popular with local runners.
Leading this year’s charge around the five- mile course was Max Hazell of Team Bath AC in a time of 30 minutes 11 seconds, over a minute ahead of second placed Warren Wade from Avon Valley Runners (31:41) and Wayne Ellis of Bitton Road Runners (32:32).
Finishing in 15th place overall Lynda Faulkner of Dorset Doddlers claimed the Ladies’ title (36:24) ahead of Sarah Layzell of Team Bath (37:44) and Melanie Nicholls of Avon Valley Runners (38:19). Mike Melnuish of Forest Of Dean Running Club was 1st MV40 and Rachel Baker from Dorset Doddlers the 1st FV40; Clive Beer from Team Bath was 1st MV50 and Aly Sloane of Salisbury A&RC was 1st FV50; Frank Lamerton of Avon Valley Runners was 1st MV60.
