PUPILS at Westbury Leigh Primary School celebrated the opening of their brand new play trail last week.
The school council gave their seal of approval to the new play area when it was built last week after two years of fundraising.
Acting headteacher John Fowler unveiled the trail alongside parent fundraisers on Friday.
John said, “The trail is fantastic – we’re really pleased with how it has come together. The children can’t wait to play on it at last, and had been designing it themselves since September.
“There’s another, smaller one on the other side of the school but it’s very old; it’s great to be able to provide something new and exciting for the pupils to use at break times.”
The school’s parent association, Friends of Westbury Leigh School (FOWLS), raised £9,500 to pay for the climbing equipment. FOWLS chair Adrian Rendall and treasurer Gail Greatwood showed the children the finished product last week.
Gail said, “The trail is something that will keep the children active and is a big step up from the play area they have at the moment. We hope it will build their confidence as well – they were very excited to see it finished.
“FOWLS raised the money from fundraising events over the past couple of years – fetes, discos, barbecues and quiz nights – which the children have been involved with as well.”
