Live music at the Soapbox Derby

DJ Hit or Miss - Photo by Chris Bailey

THE White Horse Soapbox will be hosting a main music stage with special guest DJs, including Huw Wackman – the 2023 champion of the annual UK DMC DJ competition – plus a special performance from Mellowmatic – a seven-piece funk/soul/hip-hop band known for their live high-energy festival performances at the likes of Glastonbury Festival and Boomtown!

The Soapbox Derby also welcomes back Frome’s Hit Or Miss DJ plus a return from Westbury’s very own Biggie Tallz, who recently opened a show For DJ Yoda and The Cuban Brothers on International Star Wars Day.

Organisers say, “It’s great to be able to see the kind of original artists you would see at a high-profile music festival, here in Westbury!”

Music begins at 12.15pm with DJ Hit or Miss who has opened the last two Soapbox Derby events with his pop/indie classics. Having opened shows for Martin Kemp, Frank Turner and Charlie Simpson, Hit or Miss has an eclectic mix to welcome the public to the event.

DJ Biggie Tallz will be taking over at 1.15pm with some summer R&B anthems – music for a sunshiny afternoon. Hailing from Westbury, Biggie Tallz has opened shows for many artists, including DJ Yoda and The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show.

Huw Wackman will play at 3 pm. Having also represented the UK at the World Championships in the USA, Huw Wackman has been entertaining audiences for over 40 years! Huw Wackman will be broadcasting some funk and soul at the event.

Mellowmatic will be on stage at 4.30pm. Bursting onto the UK music scene with soul-funk grooves, jazz style, neo-soul vibes and hip-hop flavours., this is an energetic seven-to-nine-piece multi-instrumental collective.

‘Mellowmatic’ was formed by multi-instrumentalist producer Ant Henderson (music director of Jurassic 5’s Soup’s Fullee Love Collective), with high acclaim from legendary hip hop and funk artists. Mellowmatic is already confirmed for Shambala, Boardmasters, Wilderness, Camp Bestival, Valleyfest, Elderflower Fields, BeCider and more. Incredibly, Mellowmatic have only been performing live since May 2021, making an unprecedented impact on the UK’s live music scene. Things are moving fast, making them ‘one to watch’.

You can see Mellowmatic and so much more on Saturday 18th May at the White Horse Soapbox Derby!
