TWO local men are planning to run from Reading to Bristol over three days– a 100 mile distance – to raise money for Dorothy House Hospice on 9th May.
Phil Stockley from Westbury and Mike ‘Moose’ Reaney from Sutton Veny are raising money for the hospice in memory of Phil’s parents, Marg and Terry, and Mike’s father, Chris. The runners’ parents had all been supported by Dorothy House in their final days.
Phil and Mike say, “Unfortunately we have both lost parents over the last few years, and Dorothy House gave us wonderful support throughout the difficult times. Their outstanding care, kindness and understanding allowed us to give our parents dignity and peace in their final days.
“Doing this run is our way of saying thank you. The more money we raise will allow other families to have this amazing support to enable them to focus on their loved ones in the darkest of times. Dorothy House are also extremely supportive of children within the families and offered grief counselling and art therapy to help them navigate the grief and anxiety they were experiencing.”
Both men like to keep fit and are both involved with Warminster Town FC – Phil is the manager for the reserves team and Mike has been playing for the club for a number of years. While Phil has completed marathons and half-marathons in the past, this will be a first long-distance run for Mike.
Phil and Mike have set a target of £5,000 – to support their efforts visit https://shorturl.at/iEMR7
