A LOCAL woman has gone the extra mile to thank the charity shop, Sue Ryder, for their continued support of her business by creating a shop window display for the shop and then selling off the items to raise money for the charity.
Lisa Crick of Dilton Marsh is the owner of the local upcycle fashion business ‘New Baginnings’ and regularly visits the Sue Ryder shop in town to buy used clothes which she uses to create bags, aprons and purses.
Lisa said, “All the materials I use are waste clothing destined for landfill. I use a lot of denim, so when I run out, I go to Sue Ryder and get my jeans for about £1-£3 each. I explained to the guys at the shop in town that I use the jeans for my business and would be happy to pay a different rate as I make money from them, but they insisted they charge the same for everyone. I felt bad so suggested that I could create a display for their shop window full of my products and they can sell them and keep 100% of the profits.
“The display was up for a week, and I think they managed to sell a few aprons and got about £70 in total. It’s just a thank you really from me for their services. I think it’s a good combination really, I make upcycled clothing from waste materials and they supply second-hand clothing so both businesses work well together and find another life for clothes that have been abandoned.
“Last year was my first business year and I was gobsmacked by the response, I didn’t think it would be received so well.”
