THE following is a message from the governors of Matravers School.
Hello, my name is Paul Howard and I am co-c1hair of governors at Matravers school. The last 18 months have provided us all with different types of challenges, that we have been able to respond to through our resilience. Thankfully, we are back in full swing in our day-to-day work at Matravers HQ. How wonderful it is to see pupils moving in corridors and interacting with each other in the school grounds. The energy and enthusiasm for normal school life can be felt.
One of the priorities for the school is now very much about delivering our vision through ensuring that we provide the best opportunities for all our Matravers family. As school governors, our key role during this past 18 months has been to ensure the school continued to deliver a first-class education for all its students, even when working remotely at times. This included ensuring the school had the correct resources available to do so.
We were tremendously impressed by the willingness of all our staff to “go the extra mile” in delivering such high-quality education throughout this period.
Throughout the last 18 months, the board of governors, made up of individuals from the community as well as representatives of parents and staff, worked with the senior team to monitor how the school was responding during the pandemic and also providing the challenge where it was necessary.
One recent indicator of the school’s performance were this summer’s exam results achieved via ‘Teacher Assessed Grades’ (TAGs). The school’s TAG process was carefully scrutinised and approved beforehand by the relevant examination boards, so we had full confidence that the school’s process was robust and fair, and the final results were superb by any standard.
Of course, now we are well underway with the school year, the things we have taken for granted over the years are once again returning; theatre performances, sports fixtures, trips and visits, and co-curricular clubs to name a few. The Board of Governors is also committed to continually improving the extent to which it engages with our parents and our wider community. We have set ourselves the task of continuing to communicate our objectives and aspirations for our school to those groups so that they feel able to actively support our pupils through their educational journey. More of that in the coming months.
In the meantime, the Board is actively seeking a further representative from the community who is enthusiastic about creating the best opportunities for all those in the Matravers family.
